The Van Keulen Chronicles

Merry Christmas from the Cheadles!

As 2025 draws to a close, we are feeling especially grateful for a year full of big changes and milestones. The biggest change of all came in March, when we finished building our new home and moved in just around the corner from Dawn and Jeff. It has been a joy settling into our forever home and being so close to family.

This year we also spent time traveling and enjoyed several memorable trips. We made a few trips out to Boxelder Bluff in the Black Hills with Nana and Papa. In August, we embarked on a memorable road trip to visit friends in Birmingham, Alabama, followed by a few days visiting the beach in Destin, Florida. Our journey included stops in Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, and Nauvoo, Illinois. We all got to check off several new states along the trip!

This summer also brought a new (furry) family member. We adopted a farm kitten from Joseph’s parents’ farm named Katniss. She’s a friendly, happy outdoor cat and is adored by all — especially the kids.

Will turned 8 in May and chose to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was a meaningful and joyful day, made even more special by the many family members and friends who came to celebrate with him. Will is in 3rd grade, still homeschooling and thriving. He’s in his third year of violin lessons and is looking forward to starting piano soon.

Abby turned 7 this month and is homeschooling in 1st grade. She has become a voracious reader and loves playing with Katniss and all things Lilo and Stitch.

Emma just turned 5 and is attending preschool two days a week at St. Edward Catholic School. There's never a dull moment with Emma—our little drama queen is constantly singing songs from Wicked and putting on performances for anyone who will watch.

Joseph continues working from home as a manager for a software engineering company. In his free time, he enjoys playing trumpet with the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra, the Route 68 Big Band and the Marshall Community Band during the summer, as well as playing pickleball in any spare time he can find. Aubree and Joseph even joined a pickleball league this fall, which has been a fun new activity for both of them.

Music has been a highlight for Aubree this year as well. She joined a choir for the first time since college and is absolutely loving it. Singing with the Prairie Arts Chorale out of Granite Falls—and traveling for their fall concert tour—has been a joyful and fulfilling experience. She even got to sing a solo and in a trio to open their fall concert (Aubree’s Solo begins at 1:56)! Another highlight this year was in September, when Aubree flew to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to meet up with friends from her online book club for a reading retreat, which was an incredible experience!

As we reflect on this year, we feel incredibly blessed by our home, our family, our friendships, and the experiences we’ve shared. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

With love,
The Cheadles
